Survey demonstrates overwhelming community support for London Southend Airport

Over 7,000 people took part in airport survey 

90% of local respondents scored at least 8/10 for overall favorability

Over 7,000 people have participated in a survey commissioned by London Southend Airport, showing huge community support for the airport.

  • 74% of local people gave 10/10 for airport contribution to the local area
  • 65% gave 10/10 overall favorability rating
  • Over 5,000 local people scored 8-10/10 for environmental management 

Respondents to the survey, designed to understand the views of local residents, also felt London Southend Airport delivered a valuable contribution to the local economy and jobs market. 74% of people living within the Southend borough and Rochford district gave the airport 10/10 for its contribution to the local area, with 86% scoring it between 8-10 out of ten. 

Over 5,000 local people scored the airport between 8-10 out of ten for its environmental management, a key focus for the airport as it reviews sustainable options to build back better under its environmental action plan. 

The survey covered a range of topics from favourability to the airport’s contribution to the local economy, environmental action to future destinations. 

It also allowed respondents to include comments and further feedback:

“It’s so convenient and easy to use.” 

“Airport is a major boost to the Southend economy and a prestigious asset to the new City.” 

“Would very much welcome an expansion of the airport.”

This will ensure that future growth remains sustainable, delivers the right choice of destinations and provides a wide range of job opportunities.

London Southend Airport, ranked the best London airport by consumer group Which? six times and voted the best UK airport (under three million capacity) by the Airport Operator’s Association in 2019. 

Serving close to 2.3 million passengers in 2019, London Southend offered services to around 40 domestic and European cities. The terminal has its own railway station, less than 100 paces from the main entrance, with up to six trains an hour at peak times to central London, taking just 52 minutes to Liverpool Street and 43 minutes from Stratford. All airport car parks are located minutes from the terminal entrance.
