Road improvements Kent Elms
Please be aware that from Monday 21st November 2016 there will be road improvements works taking place at Kent Elms. Please note below from Southend Borough Council for more details.
Following on from the improvement Works at Tesco we are about to commence the main improvement works at Kent Elms. The works start on Monday 21st November and will continue through to May 17. The majority of the works will be undertaken during off peak periods 9.30-15.30 Monday to Friday. Although these are off peak, we do anticipate the works will cause some delays to road users. We will also be removing the existing footbridge which will require overnight closures of the A127 (diversions will be in place). We anticipate this to be over the weekend of 25th November.
The work involves installing additional lanes on both inbound and outbound carriageways, replacing the footbridge and introducing new surface crossings. The £6.5m project aims to improve the traffic flow and reduce congestion across this key junction into and out of the town and make it easier for mobility impaired, disabled people and those with pushchairs to cross the highway. A new surface-level pedestrian crossing will also be introduced across the A127 to the east of the junction near Mendip Crescent. There will also be a new pedestrian crossing in Rayleigh Road, at the junction. These will be timed to coincide with the main traffic light sequence. The pedestrian crossing next to the Kent Elms surgery, which opened in December 2015, will be retained and slightly modified.
London Southend Airport is 41 miles (61km) east of Central London.
